Our Mandate

We are committed to celebrating the BIPOC Arts Ecology in Waterloo Region. We hold space for Racialized & marginalized Dance Artists to collaborate in a safe place with representative leadership who hold shared lived experiences of trauma, racism and discrimination. We are passionate about showcasing diverse dancers of all ages, body types and stages of professional development.

We are a collective of storytellers, exploring the intersections of culture in a contemporary context through movement. We are a group of Artivists, sharing our artistic experiences with each other and our community. We are striving for diversity, equity and inclusion for racialized artists within the Canadian Dance Industry through Regional work.

We are a proudly Women Led & Black Founded Business & Ad Hoc Collective

Black Businesses Matter

Representation Matters!

We operate through a distinctly DEI lens.

We are founded on progressive principals & value systems.

We are unapologetically here!

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Racialized Artists are notoriously marginalized, under-represented, overly-exploited and continuously working in racist and emotionally unsafe environments. DiverseWorks is committed to creating safe spaces for racialized artists to work, practice, grow and learn together as a collective of like minded individuals with shared lived experiences. We welcome BIPOC, disabled and marginalized Artists from all socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and age groups. Our mandates have been built into the core concepts of our company, ensuring that our policies withstand the test of time and are updated frequently by leading industry professionals.

Empowerment through Education

We all started somewhere. We are committed to providing educational opportunities in all of its facets. As a company, we are always striving to learn and grow from one another.

We offer a PAID Company Apprenticeship Program, ongoing professional development opportunities for our Collective and community Workshops & Panel Discussions regularly.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
